California Employment Law and Overtime

By California Employment Law, the employees are not allowed to work more than 8 hours per day. It’s considered over time. I’m currently working at Target and Sears, one shift in the early morning and one late at night. What if the total hours is more than 8 a day. Is it illegal? Has anyone ever worked for 2 companies simultaneously like me before?

One Response to California Employment Law and Overtime

  • Overtime is not a daily cummulative total between all your jobs. It only applies to one job at a time. If you work 7 hrs at Sears and 5 hrs at Target, both are straight time, not 4 hrs overtime. But if you work 9 hrs at Sears and 6 hrs at Target, only the 1 extra hr at Sears is overtime.
