You have a temporary, partial disability and you should get a note from your doctor outlining any special accommodations you may need. It puts you in a protected class and you can’t be fired. Watch out for any unfair treatment at work. They cannot treat you any differently if you are disabled. Even if your employer says “for you own benefit, we don’t want you doing this or that….”, that is illegal even if they think it would help you. Big no-no.

You should have a note from your doctor that specifies your temporary limitation while the finger heals—which shouldn’t be over a month.

Get that slip from your doctor or if you haven’t go to a clinic where you can get one.

Once you have the Dr’s limited work release you should take it to HR and explain to them and they should be able to work something out whether it be a change in schedule or just getting someone to help you move the heavy stuff when you have to.

Most of the activities in your job involve replacing liners which should not aggravate the finger since it is in a cast.

And no, I see no reason why this should be grounds for termination.

    Good luck
