It can be very difficult to find a new job, but it depends on what part of the country you’re in and whether or not you have a degree and the job you’re looking for requires one. Sometimes you can find work by networking with other people. Friends know friends who might be hiring.

I have in the past. It took me 3 mons to get another job and I applied everywhere! Yeah, they didn’t give me very many details. They didn’t replace me with someone younger they let the older lady that I worked with take over my position and all she did was talk on the phone all day and did no work. Ha Ha on them!!!!! They should have kept me instead!
My job downsized this summer and I was laid off. I had no trouble getting a new job. It did take about 3 months, but I was getting unemployment.
The reason they gave me was that the newspaper was cutting its size in half, which was true. I was the newest person hired, so I was the first to get laid off. There were also people from other departments laid off. They also gave me a good reccomendation as well.
After 9/11 my wife lost 4 jobs because she didnt have a degree but had 25 years experience. Rough times. The job search was the hardest. The longest we waited was about 6 months. She was in automotive and thats all she knew and beingin Michigan thats a normal job relation. But after 9/11 we all know what that has done to this state. She broadened her horizons to different job sectors and got a job for a company that makes Nuclear reactor coolers. Been there for just over a year now. The previous companies worked her like a dog and after she got their heads above water they canned her. She is 46 now and we hope that this is th place that she gets to stay at. Its a small family owned business so hopefully that works in our favor. I work for the Department of Transportation-Aviation Division now so I am pretty secure in my job as a government worker.
