Fired At Work For Being Pregnant

So, I told my boss about a week and a half ago that I am about 5 1/2 months pregnant. Then the other day I told him that I’ve been feeling kinda lightheaded lately and might have to sit down and take a breather for a few seconds on occasion. Then 2 days later, today, over the phone he tells me I’m not a fit for the company and fires me… even though I make the most sales (we are a retail store). Personally I think he thinks I’m a bad image for the company’s sales and crap because I’m round and pregnant and I’m going to need to sit, etc. as my pregnancy goes on. Is this discrimination? Can I start a case or what? How do I do that?

Answer:  Hell yes, you can start a case.  Regarding pregnancy discrimination, the law forbids discrimination when it comes to any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, fringe benefits, such as leave and health insurance, and any other term or condition of employment. http://www.eeoc.gov/laws/types/pregnancy.cfm

Here is how to file a charge with the EEOC for discrimination:  http://www.eeoc.gov/employees/howtofile.cfm

You might also want to get a consultation with an attorney.  If you need help finding one that deals in discrimination cases, you can find pre-screened employment law attorneys here.

Absolutely, that’s a kind of discrimination. You have the rights to have a leave in your company since you’re pregnant and they are not able to fire you as they see that you’re not working well yet because of your condition.

yes that is discrimination, you need to go get a layer and tell them what happened. They will go after that company and you will more then likely get money out off it. That’s so messed up im sorry to hear that happened to you.
