Forced To Resign, Now CEO Broadcasts I Was Fired
I was given the option to resign or be fired from my last job-so I chose to resign. I signed all the paperwork saying I resigned, etc. I have just heard from past contacts that our CEO is telling everyone that I was fired, and details about what happened. I thought that by law they could only verify employment and say if I was eligible for rehire. This is now affecting my new employment in a negative way, since I told them I resigned. Do I have rights? Can I sue? Please help, thank you!

I know being in michigan that an employer can tell other places of business that yes, you did work at that company and the dates worked there. They CANNOT state whether you have been fired or quit. They CANNOT state how you worked at that place of business or they CANNOT say what type of person you are or if you have any jail time. Seek legal cousel if you think you had an unjustice. They may be able to steer you in the right direction.
