Gay Sexual Harassment With A Straight Person

I work with a gay man who is continually making physical contact with a straight female colleague. He is very “touchy feely” and sits too close, as well as saying ‘I love you’ when he is grateful for her help. She feels very uncomfortable. She says if he were straight she would report him but doesn’t know what to think about this man.
What do others think?

One Response to Gay Sexual Harassment With A Straight Person

  • Gender doesn’t matter when it comes to sexual harassment.

It doesn’t really sound like this gay dude is actually making sexual advances. He just seems overly touchy. Your friend needs to tell this person that his touching is invading her personal space and that the “I love you’s” are used in the wrong context and unwelcome. Document it. If it continues, go to HR and document that, too. If they take no action, they can get into legal trouble. They are obligated to take action on all complaints.
