Got Laid Off After Return From Maternity Leave in CA

 
 

 

Q:  My friend started her Maternity Leave Aug 1 and came back to work Sep 14. She’s told she’s getting laid off effective end of Sept due to cost cutting. Is this against labor law legal in CA? Psl advise coz Im not familiar with labor law in CA.

A:  The old “cost cutting” excuse doesn’t always float in front of a jury.  If she was the only one laid off, it would look highly suspicious.  She needs to find an attorney to get a consultation.
