Don’t even bother to call them and don’t go into an EDD office. You can now file your claim online at http://www.edd.ca.gov/ Just remember, in order to collect, you have to be ready, willing and able to go back to work. If you want to take some time off while you’re collecting benefits, you have to report it and they will doc your check because you were unavailable for work. Unemployment insurance is not a right and you did not pay into it. Your employer did. You paid into state disability (SDI), but not unemployment.
