Husband Got Laid Off – How Will I Make The Car Payment?

My hubby just got laid off and i have no idea how i am going to be able to pay for our car payment! Does anyone know if the bank would possibly make arrangements to lower the payment with us, so that we don’t lose our only means of transportation.

  • The most important thing to do right now is to call the finance company, tell them what happened and ask them for assistance. My boyfriend is allowed to skip two car payments a year, but he has to call so they know he’s not just missing payments.

If worse comes to worse, hide the car. Park it in the garage and don’t use it or it will get towed. If you really get behind on payments, they can report it stolen. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

After you call the finance company, then click here to find a new job. You and/or your husband need to get signed up into as many job search networks as possible. Sign up for email alerts so you get notifications when new jobs are posted in your area. Best of luck to you.

The average household has approx $2000 worth of unwanted/unneeded items around the house. If you don’t have experience selling, there are many Trading Assistants who are available to help you, for a commission. Selling on eBay isn’t hard, it just takes time. Perhaps your husband could use the spare time to sell a few things and generate some cash for your car payment.

Often times your bank will work with you on lower payments. They would rather lower the payment than lose you as a customer, which is what happens if they repossess the car. Call your bank and see what can be done. Also, make sure your hubby applies for unemployment benefits. If you don’t work, it’s possible you may have to get a job, at least part time. With the holidays coming, places like Wal Mart are looking for temp help with stocking shelves. Best of luck, I know the feeling.

Call the loan department and take with the person in charge, ask if you could just pay the interest till your spouse finds employment.Your husband should be able to draw unemployment for a while.Hope this helps.

they might sometimes.. more importantly look at the initial paperwork they all sell an unemployment insurance that will make payments on the car while you are unemployed.. usually they try to sneak it in and have you sign it without informing you.. if you DID get it and pay for it.. then it will make the car payments for you while he is unemployed.
