I Was Fired From My Job, What Can I Do?
A Reader Asks This Question:
I was working in a large healthcare company as a counselor. I was there for 7 months and had constant conflict with a co-worker. It was close to a hostile work environment and she was beginning to make untrue accusations about me to the manager. If I ever complained about her disrespect toward me, I was viewed as the problem. I was fired yesterday following a misunderstanding with this co-worker. My boss said I don’t get along with anyone and no one likes me at the workplace. This is completely untrue and I developed many friendships and professional relationships. Should I contact the others at work that were my allies and ask for support? I also complained about this co-worker to HR. Could I call the HR and discuss my concerns for what was said when I was fired? What can I do? I am so hurt and disturbed that I was told no one likes me? I was also told I over exaggerate things. As a counselor, it is normal to discuss cases and express concerns. Is there anything I can do? Thank you

When you complained about this co-worker, did you mention that she was creating a hostile environment? No doubt there was an employee manual. Is there anything in it about reporting complaints and grievances? Did they violate their own policies by not adhering to company policy? Did they single you out and treat you any differently than anyone else who made complaints?
