I worked for Starbucks during the economic crisis. Was I “laid off” or “terminated”?
Was I Laid Off or Terminated?
Question:
My boss informed me that she was “letting me go” after not scheduling me for two weeks. She said it wasn’t my fault but didn’t exactly give me the option of returning either.
My question is, was I terminated or laid off? I’m filling out an application for a different Starbucks, and it’s electronic so I’m only allowed the options: “laid off,” “quit/resigned,” “terminated” or “still employed.” What should I put?
Answer:
You where laid off because your employment was terminated through NO fault of your own. You already said it yourself, “She said it wasn’t my fault…” It makes a huge difference, not only for a job application, but for unemployment benefits.
