Illegal? Boss Cutting Hours Because of Bathroom Use in Pregnancy
I had posted a question earlier about discrimination during pregnancy, but my idiot boss has taken it one step further. He called and left a msg on my cell phone stating that he cut my hours because of my “current condition” (being pregnant) and because I used the bathroom too much. He said he wouldn’t give me my hours back until after my “condition was resolved.” Am I wrong, or is this completely illegal and enough to bring a strong discrimination case against him??!
Answer: That is STRAIGHT UP ILLEGAL! Yes, it IS strong enough to file a discrimination claim either with the EEOC or your state’s labor board. Start with the EEOC. Do it immediately. Did you keep the cell phone message? I hope so. It’s evidence as it comes straight from the horse’s mouth. Here’s how to file a charge: http://www.eeoc.gov/employees/charge.cfm

YES! That is ridiculous. Get in touch with the Equal Employment Opportunity Center! They can help you, get the information you need to file a case. And EEOC themselves will file suit against them if it is ligitamate! I would also get in touch with a lawyer, just to ask questions and get information. I don’t know if you will be able to use a lawyer (they can be expensive) but at least you get all the information neccessary to do what you can with the funds you have!!!!!
Good Luck, and people like your boss shouldn’t be in management!
Keep the message on your phone first of all, then call the EEOC with your complaint.
I would say that this is absolutely illegal and obvious discrimination against you because of your pregnancy. I would sit down with him and let him know how you feel about your hours, if no action is taken on his part, I would let him know that you are considering speaking with a lawyer. Best of Luck to you!
I hope you saved that message, because you’ve got a nice case in your hands – any lawyer would be THRILLED to take on your case becase it’s a sure thing! Good luck!
