Is this worth reporting as discrimination or favoritism?

For the last two weeks my store manager, and the manager that makes the schedule have cut my hours because they think something is going on with me and another manager. they are assuming that we have “something” going on. so i am no longer working the same nights and my hours have been cut from 5 days to 3. one day i will not leave work until 11pm and must be back at work the next morning at 7am. is this worth reporting? also another girl at work who has worked there for a month is a friend of the store manager’s family. she has almost a full scheduled week and i have 3 days is this considered favoritism or discrimination?

i have worked this same job for 2 years, almost 4 or 5 days a week if not more. and i come to work in the snow when nobody else does, and stay late if needed, and come in if called. i have never been written up, and only called in 3 times in 2 years.

i feel this is wrong for my store manager to do this, but is it worth going to the district manager, or a hotline for discrimination?

  • In order for it to be discrimination, it would have to fall under one of these categories: http://www.eeoc.gov/laws/types/index.cfm

I agree with @Courtney, do you know for sure that’s the reason your hours have been cut? Have they told you so? If not, I would straight up ask them why your hours were cut.

Does your company have an employee manual? If so, check it for a fraternization policy. And I have to ask, ARE you seeing this other person? Find out why you are disparately singled out.

I would document every thing that led up to it and then how you were retaliated against after the “event” that made them cut your hours. Click here to download “10 Things That Managers Do To Get Sued…And Lose In Court”

  • Courtney Myrick says:

How can you be sure thats why they’re cutting your hours? That is probably the first thing a DM would ask you. Stay strong. if there’s really nothing going on, then sounds like your up against some jealousy – i know how it feels to be right, and mistreated. But I also know what it feels like to fight something because you are right and then at the end wish you had just let some little stuff go.

  • Pearls Before Swine says:

If they are doing this to you because of your gender or race or religion or disability, then it’s discrimination and probably illegal.

But if they’re just doing it because they’re jerks, it’s not illegal, though it’s certainly unfair and you could go to the district manager.
