KFC: Guys Can’t Wear Earrings, Is It Discrimination?
I work at a KFC/Taco bell combo restaurant. I’m a guy. The day I started, I was told to take my piercing out. (my left ear, simple piercing, not gauged). But since then, I’ve noticed my female co-workers wearing small gauges, nose rings, etc. I asked my manager about it, and he says guys can’t have piercings because it’s socially unacceptable. To me, this sounds like a giant load of crap. Could I file a complaint to corporate about something like this? It’s bullshit that in order to work there, that has to be taken away from me, while the girls get to do whatever they want.

What is the company policy? You were given an employee handbook. What does the handbook say about earrings? Is your manager correctly interpreting the employee handbook or making up his own rules? Report it to HR if you feel that strongly about it. I know it pisses you off, but is it worth the fight? You could end up losing your job over it.
If you’re prepared to fight, you’ll need to document how it all plays out. Here’s a free download that explains how to do that.
