Mean Boss Is Making My Final Days At Work Living Hell
I recently gave notice at my office job. I decided to do something I’ve wanted to do for years (go back to school full-time) and gave my boss ample notice. I told her about a month ago I was considering the change. Then, as per the details of my contract, I gave her more than the requisite month’s notice. Since then, she’s been harsh, abrasive and rude with me. I’ve caught her going through my desk twice this week and her immediate boss seems unconcerned with this. I am not sure who to turn to and I do not want to leave any earlier than I’ve already specified. Question is, how the heck do I get through this last month of working with a crazy woman? Do I call her out on everything she does? Do I keep my head down and just cross days of the calendar? Do I go to the vice president of the company and explain to him that she’s a crazy woman? I can’t quit. I won’t let her break me. If you’ve managed to read this far, apparently you’re not a quitter either. Kudos.

I would confront this snooper face to face and ask her what she’s doing in your desk. It may be harassment, but it’s not illegal discriminatory harassment…I don’t think. At least not in the eyes of the EEOC. It’s retaliation for giving notice, but again, I’m not sure that’s illegal unless specifically outlined in your contract. Check your employee manual. There may be something in there about fair treatment to employees. I’d report the b*tch.
You said you gave more than the required amount of notice. If you’ve already reached the required amount as stated in your contract and you can afford it, give an amended notice and say you need to leave earlier than orginally anticipated. Cite “personal reasons”. That’s all you need to say. Or, if you don’t have PTO and sick time is accrued seperately, call in sick and use up your sick time. Might as well because you’re going to lose it when you leave.
