One Response to On Workers Comp, Then Put On Unemployment

  • You don’t “get put on unemployment”. If you are injured at work, worker’s comp will pay for your medical bills. If you can’t work, it will also pay for around 65% of your base salary.

In order to get unemployment you would have to have lost your job through no fault of your own and then YOU would have to apply for unemployment benefits. However, you can’t collect both unemployment and workers comp. Worker’s comp means you can’t work. Unemployment means you can work and you must be available and able to work in order to collect it. If you are so much as sick or go on vacation while you’re on unemployment, you must deduct those days because you were not available to work.

That’s illegal, but some employers do it, anyway.
