Pregnancy Discrimination at Work – Job Being Moved

I teach a TAKS grade and my princ just called me and said I would be moving to 2nd next year because I was not meeting my students’ needs. I have nothing but good evaluation reports from her stating that I am great at encouraging my students’ higher level thinking and she signed my end of year performance sheet with 100% meeting each standard. I do not want to move and see no reason for me to move.

I will be out near the middle of the year with my first baby and I’m wondering if this is based on her fear that my maternity leave will conflict with the students’ TAKS scores since that is all she cares about at our school. Any advice?

One Response to Pregnancy Discrimination at Work – Job Being Moved

  • There is a possibility there is pregnancy discrimination, but you have to prove it. Document everything. Note the excellent reviews. 100% MEANS 100%. That’s like a nail in your principal’s coffin to reneg on that. Document when you told her you were pregnant and then note when she told you she was moving you. That kind of timing is critical for proving your case. Did she give you specifics on where you were “failing” your students’ needs?

It doesn’t matter that she’s ignorant of the pregnancy discrimination laws. It’s the district’s duty to advise the prinicipals in such laws. This can also fall back onto the district. Pursue it!
