Pregnancy Discrimination: Bad Treatment After Notifying Employer
So lets say your pregnant… you found out two weeks ago. On Monday of this week you inform your employers that you are pregnant. On Tuesday your employers inform you and only you, that your hours will be cut due to financial purposes. On Wednesday your employer asks you and only you to prepare for a long overdue performance review. On Thursday your employer tells you that they originally wanted to lay you off and tries to end the business relationship smoothly by saying they will write you a reference letter. When you ask this employer to also write you a letter stating that you are being laid off due to financial reasons they refuse even though they say its for financial reasons they do not want to put that in writing. Now lets say all of this is Verbal. And its been quite a few decisions made in a course of a few days. SO now your confused and you don’t know what is going on. You request through email to have the employer respond stating that you either have been laid off or had your hours cut, one or the other so that it is clear. Instead of responding. Your employer terminates your work email. So.. do we suspect this is due to financial purposes… or is this due to the fact that you told your employer the day before this happened that you are pregnant?
I forgot to mention your employer is AT-WILL in the State of Michigan
That would be pure gold if it all played out like that. Pregnancy discrimination all the way. Even, EVEN if there was an inkling of financial purposes, the trigger was the pregnancy. I would document the crap out of that scenario and file an EEOC claim.
