Pregnancy Discrimination: Did Your Work Schedule Get Altered?
I am now 11weeks pregnant, however in the past couple of weeks I have had severe nausea and vomiting constantly. I was taking a day off about every 2 weeks. Because I took all those days off, Ive been treated differently by the bosses. One example is I do not get my usual Friday and Saturdays off. I am now on a rotating roster, without any warning (also where i get no weekends). All the people who are on a rotating roster are agency workers or new workers (basically people who are at the bottom of the barrel, I am not one of these people, I’ve been working for the company for 6 months) I’m really offended by this, and i know i took too many days off but i really was just too sick to work. I really want my Fridays and Saturdays back….but as one of my bosses said “You cant use pregnancy as an excuse to my sickness’s”.
I feel really down graded, just because I’m pregnant!
Has anyone gone through this situation?
Thanks

Pregnancy discrimination is so illegal and your boss’ ignorance of the law is NOT an excuse! It’s your company’s responsibility to train its managers regarding it. Have you documented what happened? You need to do that and then you need to file a claim with the EEOC, if you have at least 15 employees in your company. If less, then file a claim with your state’s labor board. Here is what the EEOC says about pregnancy discrimination. “The law forbids discrimination when it comes to any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, fringe benefits, such as leave and health insurance, and any other term or condition of employment.” You can read more here: http://www.eeoc.gov/laws/types/pregnancy.cfm
