Question about Employee Drug Testing – “laws” or “rules”?
Question:
Is my employer allowed to “Threaten” me with a urine screen as a punishment for making a mistake? There was no accident or injury, I simply made a mistake with a products information in our system causing a bad sale, (I work for a small company
and they only threatened me with the test, they didnt actually make me take one, the head of the company brought me into his office, yelled at me for messing up made me sign a writee up form that said if i mess something else up i will have to take a drug test and get 3 non paid days off as punishment and they took money out of my paycheck to pay for the mistake and the cost to ship the right part.
Answer:
I don’t think they can take money out of your paycheck. They can also fire you for any reason, so long as it’s not an illegal reason.
Is this drug test, write-up, non-paid days off as punishment written policy in an employee handbook, or are they pulling it out of their ass as it pleases them? Are you being singled out? Has anyone else every been on the receiving end of such retaliation for a bad sale? I would speak to someone about it. Click here to find an attorney in your area to get a consultation.
