Women: have you ever experienced gender discrimination at work?

A Reader Asks This Question:

Women: have you ever witnessed or experienced gender discrimination at work? If you have, can you explain what happened?

(I’m doing this for a project and I would like to hear some experiences that women have had)

Thanks

I was a programmer at a software company and my office just happened to be close to the front door. We kept the front door locked because there were so many solicitors in the area. Some new analyst expected me to answer the door all the time. He got pissed when his real estate agent showed up and I didn’t answer the door. He also expected me to take phone messages for him. The last straw was when he asked me to make copies for him. That’s when I laid it out for him that I was a programmer just like the rest of the programmers in the office and I’ll be damned if I’ll play secretary to him just because I wear a skirt. That shut him up.

This guy was a sleeze ball. Years later, after he left the company, he found out that we were bidding on a job in another state. Turns out he was seeing some chick in that town on the side (he was married) and had the balls to call of the president of the company offering to go work there for us so he could see this chick! He flat out told the boss he was having an affair. Like we were supposed to hire him so he could go hump her? OMG. That story really got a good laugh in the office.

Yes I have, my boss groped me and put 500 dollars on my desk for me to sleep with him. I told him where he can go and what he can do after he got there. So, he fired me. Then I went to the law, and yes he got what he deserved. I had a witness. And the jerk admitted it in court! Talk about lousy. I also know it can happen to either gender, however in my case, I am a female. Sorry for those of you to had to endure that kind of torture day in and day out just to make an honest living. Which by the way I paid my own way and was self sufficient.
    Good Luck!

Pizza Pizza wouldn’t allow a friend of mine to deliver pizzas because it was "too risky" to let a chick do that. Something about there being creeps who order pizzas. It’s also discrimination against pizza-orderers.

Yeah, when I have worked in kitchens, I was expected to do a lot more cleaning than guys, even though we were hired for the same job.
