Will employers hire someone who is pregnant?

I have a friend who says she has an interview. Seems to me like an employer would not want to hire someone who is pregnant. Does the employer have the right not to? Is this discrimination if they don’t? Didn’t get a chance to ask her if she told them about the pregnancy. Just curious for my own knowledge.  Well because they will have to give her maternity leave and all. What if she doesn’t tell them and reveals it later? Can she be terminated?

Answer:  It is illegal to discriminate against a woman who is pregnant not only at work, but also during the hiring process.  If she wasn’t hired because her skills suck, that is not illegal.  If she wasn’t hired because she’s pregnant and would just be out on maternity leave in a few weeks, that’s illegal.  Proving it is another matter.  She needs to take notes during the interview if the subject comes up.
